Aston Villa 3-2 Man City

A lot of early pressure from Man City was rewarded just on half time with a goal from Kolo Toure. El Ahmadi equalised for Villa by sliding the ball past Joe Hart. Eden Dzeko restoed the visitors lead five minutes later with a simple header at the near post. 17 minutes from time, Bacuna scored a free kick from 25 yards out. Two minutes later Weimann put the ball past Hart from a counter-attack to make it 3-2 Villa.

Man Utd 1-2 West Brom

At the start of the second half, a run form Almanfitano resulted in a chip over the Man Utd goalie to make it 1-0 to the baggies. Three minutes later Rooney score an equaliser for the home side. 10 minutes later, Berhanio scored the winner for the baggies at Old Trafford for unlikely but deserved victory for Steve Clark's men.

Inverness 3-0 Hibernian

Scottish Premiership

10 minutes in to the match, after a goal-keeping blunder, Billy McKay scored from a left footed shot with an assist from Graeme Shinnie. After a quick free-kick and a cross followed by a bit of chaoes in the box Richie Foran was able to score from a shot 15 yards out. Billy McKay scored a great shot from outside the box to seal the deal for Caley Thistle.

Real Madrid 0-1 Atletico Madrid

La Liga

One of the most anticipated Madrid derbies ended in a one nil win for Atletico.  minuteThe game, full of tackles and fouls was decided by an eleventh shot from Brazilian Diego Costa being the differance between the two sides.

AZ Alkmaar 2-1 PSV Eindhoven

A 21st minute goal from Nik Viergever gave AZ the lead before 10 minutes from half time when Memphis Depay got the equaliser the visitors were looking for. 12 minutes into the second half, american Aron Johannsson scored the winner for AZ and got them an important 3 points in the race for Europe.

Games of the Week - 17th-18th September - Champions League Matchday 1

Manchester United 4-2 Bayer Leverkusen

Uefa Champions League - Group A

Rooney opened the scoring after the 22nd minute with a shot from close-range. Rolfes equalized just after the break before Van Persie scored an overhead kick to retake the lead for United. Rooney scored again before Valencia made it 4-1. Leverkusen scored a consolation goal from Toprak 2 minutes from time.

Galatasary 1-6 Real Madrid

UEFA Champions League - Group B

Isco scored from a deflected shot after half an hour. Benzema scored after a counter attack 10 minutes into the second half. 9 minutes later Ronaldo tapped in for a 3rd.  Two minutes later, Ronaldo scored after a free-kick. With 9 minutes to go Benzema got his second from five yards out. Three minutes later Bulut made sure that Iker Cassilas did not get a clean sheet with a consolation goal. In added time Ronaldo scored a goal going past three defenders before pelting the ball into the net.

Bayern Munchen 3-0 CSKA Moscow

Austrian Alaba scored after 3 minutes from a free-kick before Mario Mandzukic flicked on a Robben free-kick to score 4 minutes before half-time. Arjen Robben scored after being clean through on goal 22 minutes from the end.

Viktoria Plzen 0-3 Manchester City

Three goals in ten minutes gave Man City the win in Plzen. After long periods of pressure in the first half, Dzeko broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half. Toure scored the goal of the night with a curling shot from 30 yards out. Aguero sealed the away win with a shot from 18 yards out.

Chelsea 1-2 FC Basel

UEFA Champions League Group E

Oscar took the lead for the Europa League champions with a shot inside the box in the final minute of half time. Basel equalised through Mohammed Salah with 19 minutes to go with a shot from the edge of the box before Streller scored a header 8 minutes from time.

Marseille 1-2 Arsenal

UEFA Champions League Group F

Theo Wallcott scored a strike 10 yards out to take the lead for the gunners 20 minutes into the first half. Welshman Aaron Ramsey was next to score after being unchallenged and the placing the ball past the goalie. Marseille were rewarded for their efforts by earning a penalty in stoppage time and Ayew placing it into the corner.

Atletico Madrid 3-1 Zenit St Pe'burg

UEFA Champions League Group G

Atletico opened the scoring with a header from Miranda 5 minutes before half time. Hulk equalised for Zenit after 58 minutes by scoring a goal from outside the box on the counter attack. Zenit re-took the lead by the way of Turan 6 minutes later with a free-kick turning into a scrammy before the ball fell to Turan. Madrid sealed the deal 10 minutes from time with Baptistao chipping the goalie.

AC Milan 2-0 Celtic

San Siro, Attendance 43000
UEFA Champions League Group H

After 81 minutes of consistent Celtic pressure a shot from Zapta was deflected by Izaguirre and beat Forester. With five minutes to go Muntari sealed 3 points for Milan. Unlucky from Celtic but they will be looking for the same against Barca in two weeks time.

Goals galore in the Scottish Cup. In the all- Press and Journal Highland League tie with Whyte of Forres and McAskill of Kieth both getting two goals. McAskill's second being the goal which send Keith through to Round Two.

Villarreal 2-2 Real Madrid

Gareth Bale's first start for Real Madrid was blessed with a goal from close range, just after Cani scored for Villarreal. Ronaldo scored for Madrid after 64 minutes. However dos Santos scored a vital equaliser for Villarreal and got them an important point.

FC Twente 2-2 PSV Eindhoven

Ghanain midfielder Shadrach Eghan scored his first goal of the season for Twente after 18 minutes. Twente held on to their lead before Wijnaldum scored a header from 6 yards for PSV. Twente thought they had won it with their dutch midfielder Quincy Promes scoring a volley with 20 minutes to go. It was not to be, as a long deflected shot from Memphis Depay was enough to beat goalie Marsman 7 minutes from time.

Ross County 2-4 Dundee United

Scottish Premiership

After a long spell of Dundee United Pressure with chances from Cfitci and Armstrong, a Ross County mistake caused goalkeeper Mark Brown fouling Gary Mackay-Steven inside the box, Mackay Steven converted the penalty after 17 minutes. 87 seconds later a cross from Nadir Cfitci headed on by Stuart Armstrong gave United a 2-0 lead. Twenty minutes later, a bit of skill from youngster Ryan Gauld led to him placing it into the bottom right corner. With 25 minutes to go, a slightly offside pass from Gauld gave Cfitici a 1-on-1 chance that he scored off.  Later on, a deflected cross from Ivan Sproule gave County a goal, before a goal from Quinn made it 4-2.

Aston Villa 1-2 Newcastle United

Hatem Ben Arfa scored after 18 minutes for the magpies after a good run from Remy. Belgium internationalist Christian Benteke scored an equaliser halfway through the second half. Six minutes later, sub Yoan Guffron took advantage of some woeful defending and scored the winner for Newcastle United. Commentary from Andy Grey.

Borrusia Dortmund 6-2 Hamburg

French striker Aubameyang  scored for the Prussians before Mikhitaryan made it 2-0 after 22 mins. Lam scored a wonder goal for Hamburg four minutes later. Westermann brought Hamburg level at the start of the second half. Aubameyang scored after 63 minutes before Lewandowski scored ten minutes later and Reus a minute later. Lewandowski scored his second of the game and his fourth of the season.

Sports Games to buy

This post will preview the new Sports games coming out soon (i.e. next few months).

FIFA 14

Fifa 14 is the 16th game in the EA sports "FIFA" series and this season sees the addition of Ultimate Team Legends, where you can accuire great players from different eras such as Pele, Gary Lineker and Freddie Ljungberg. FIFA will be avalible for PS2 (LAst edition on PS2), PS3, XBOX 360, PC, PSP, PS Vita, Nintedo Wii and 3DS. FIFA 14 will be avalible on NextGen consoles such as the PS4 and Xbox One. There is also new teams including 18 from Brazil's Serie A, Argentina's Primera Division, Chile's Nacional Petrobras and Colombia;s Liga Postobon as well as the Brazilian and Montronegan national team. There is also a limited edition were you get 24 FUT Premium Gold Packs, a steelback case, 3 brand new celebrations, Historic Kits, 5 Pro Boosts and an Adidas Bundle. Personally FIFA 14 is a bit repetative of previous editions but FUT Legends gives it something extra.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014

The other annually released football game is PES2014, who have the licence for the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League so it will have teams involved. For the first time PES has an exclusive licence for the AFC Champions League , the Argentine Primera DivisiĆ³n, Chilean Primera DivisiĆ³n and Arabic commentary as well, by Rhaouf Khelif of Al Jazeera Sports. This year Konami have tried to improve the physics of the ball and using the new HAVOK physics engine and Motion Aniamation Stability Systems (MASS). PES will not be availble on NextGen Consoles, it will be released on PS2, PS3, XBOX 360, PC, Nintendo 3DS and PSP. I think it has improved on previous years but is not near FIFA as there is not enough licensed leagues.

F1 2013        

F1 2013 is the fifth F1 game devolped by Codemasters Birmingham. It will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. For the first time in eight years there will be classic cars from the 70's, 80's and 90's as well as classic tracks like Imola*, Estroril*, Brands Hatch and Jerez. The Cars involved are:

As well as Classic cars and track you will be able to race the 2013 F1 season with all 19 Tracks.Also the penalty system is not as annoying as F1 2012. I think this is the best F1 Game that Codemasters have made.

Games of the Week - 6-10 Sept - International Special

Macedonia 2-1 Scotland

Phillip Arena II, Attendance 16000

Goals from Ikechi Anya and a wonder last minute free kick from Shaun Maloney was enough for Scotland to beat a Macedonia team that scored the equaliser from Kostovski four minutes from time.

Luxembourg 3-2 Northern Ireland

Josey Barthel Stadium, Attendance 1114

Martin Paterson took the lead after 14 minutes. Joachim equalized right on half time. Stefano Bensi took the lead 12 minutes from Full time before Gareth McAuley made it 2-2 with 8 minutes to go. With both teams pushing for a win Luxembourg broke and Janisch scored the winner with 3 minutes to go.

Northern Ireland 2-4 Portugal

Windsor Park, Attendance 12001

Dani Alves took the lead after 20 minutes before McAuley scored 15 minutes later before Postiga was sent off for violent conduct. Jamie Ward scored for N. Ireland after 52 minutes before two Northern Ireland players were sent-off (Lafferty and Brunt) and Ronald scored a hat-trick.

Belarus 2-4 France

Dinamo Stadium, Attendance 12203

Flipenko scored after 32 minutes before Ribery scored a penalty after 47 minutes. Kalachev retook the Belo-Russian lead, 5 minutes later. Then Ribery scored after 64 minutes before Nasri made it 3-1 and Pogba sealed the deal for the French after 74 minutes.

Switzerland 4-4 Iceland

Stade de Suisse, Attendance 26000

Gudmundsson opened the scoring after 3 minutes before Liechtenstiener scored an equalizer 10 minutes later. Schwar and Leichtenstiener scored for the Swiss to make it 3-1. A Dzemile Penalty after 54 minutes made it 4-1 before Sigthorsson scored a minute later followed ten minutes later by Gudmundsson second. Iceland were rewarded for their comeback in added time by  Gudmundsson completing his Hat-trick.

Games of the week 30 Aug-1 Sept

Bayern Munich 2-2 Chelsea AET


Bayern Muich win 5-4 on Penalties
Eden Arena, Prague, Attendance 20000 

An Early goal from Torres gave Chelsea the lead after 8 minutes. Frank Ribery responded with an equaliser at the start of the second half before Ramierez for Chelsea was booked twice and sent-off. Bayern were unable to capitalise and the Super Cup went to Extra time. Eden Hazard scored in the 93rd minute to make it 2-1. Then  5 seconds before the ed of added time of the second half in Extra time Javi Martinez scored to take it to penalties. Roman Lukaku missed the final penalty in the shoot out to give Bayern the Super Cup.

Crystal Palace 3-1 Sunderland

Danny Gabbidon opened the scoring after 9 minutes for Palace. Steven Fletcher scored an equaliser after 64 minutes. A dodgy backpass led to John O'Shea being the last man inside the box, taking down Gayle and bein sent-off. Gayle scored the penalty. A last minute wonder goal from Stuart O'Keafe sealed the 3 points.

Motherwell 2-1 Kilmarnock

A Steven Mcmanus own goal gave the visitors the lead after 17 minutes. Henri Anier scored an equaliser for Motherwell 3 minutes later. John Sutton scored the winner right on half time with the assist coming from Ian Vigurs.

Real Madrid 3-1 Athletic Bilbao

A goal from Isco gave Real Madrid the lead before Christano Ronaldo scored right on half time to make it 2-0. Isco sealed the deal after 72 minutes when he made it 3-0. Athletic Club got a consolation goal from Gomez after 79 minutes.

Cheivo 2-4 Napoli

Hamsik opened the scoring for Napoli after 13 minutes, before Cheivo scored the equaliser 9 minutes later with the goal from Paloschi. Callejon retook the lead for the Veronan side 3 minutes later. Paloschi scored 5 minutes before half time. Hamsik scored after 64 minutes with Higuain securing victory 6 minutes later.

Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United

Anfield, Attendance 44411

An early goal from Danil Sturridge was enough for Liverpool to beat Manchester United at Anfield. It is Liverpool's best start to a Premier League season since 1994-95.

Stuttgart 6-2 1899 Hoffeinheim

Mercedes-Benz Arena, Attendance 42450

Stuttgart took the lead on the 12 minute mark with a goal from Rudiger. Then they doubled their lead with a goal from Ibisevic. Hoffenhiem got one back after Volland scored on the 26 minutes. Maxim scored on the half-hour mark. Ibisevic and Maxim got their second on the 47th and 55th minutes. Ibisevic got his hat-trick on the 63rd minute to make it 6-1. Firmino got a consolation goal 3 minutes from time.
