The break consisted of nine riders, the highest in the Gc being Brice Feiliu at 11 minutes 32 behind Nibali, other notables being Bakelants and Visconti. Visconti beat Blel Kadri (AG2R) to take the points on the Category 3 Col de la Croix de Montvieux. A Number of riders abandoned during the stage, they were: Dani Navarro (Cofidis), Arthur Vichot (FDJ) and Janier Acevedo (Garmin).
